Annual Essay Contest
In 2013, the Gandhi Alliance launched the first of what has become an annual essay contest at Salt Lake City's Horizonte Instruction and Training Center. Keeping Gandhi and his teachings alive among young people is an important Alliance objective, and the essay contest is effective in accomplishing that goal.
Students are asked to write an essay discussing Gandhi's philosophy as it relates to classroom reading from books selected by Horizonte teachers and donated to the school by the Alliance.
First, second, and third-place winners plus three honorable mentions are named in the 9th/10th grade division and the 11th/12th grade division. All winners receive a framed certificate, while the first through third-place winners also receive cash awards.
